Obituary of Lotah Fields II
Lotah Fields II was born on July 18, 1975 in Brooklyn, NY to Lotah and Olga Fields. As a baby, “Ahh-boo, Ahh-boo” was his cry for attention. Hence, his father tagged him with the nickname “Abu”.
Abu was a loving and caring kid. He had a warm, infectious, and easy personality. Despite train and car racing sets, he showed no interest in mechanical, electrical, backyard auto repair, or other sciences. As time flew by, we found out the reason why. Soufflé was his calling!
In 1978, the family moved to Queens, NY where Abu attended St. Clare’s Catholic School for his first years of elementary and later attended P.S. 176Q, I.S. 59Q, and later Bayside H.S. where he was a proud member of the football team. His family would attend his games, cheering and chanting “Go Bayside, yeah yeah! Go Bayside, yeah yeah! Get up, get up, get up, do your thing! Columbus, yeah yeah! Columbus, yeah yeah! Get up, get up, get up, sit back down!” He loved football so much, you could find him running and playing the sport with his friends in the middle of the street in front of the house.
Abu decided to study Hotel and Restaurant Management at the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore. His time there was short lived, as his passion for culinary arts grew, and he decided to leave.
Abu returned home and enrolled at the New York Restaurant School, and his culinary skills blossomed. While he was only there for a couple of years, he took what he knew and worked hard. As a result, Abu was employed at many 4 and 5 star restaurants, including Windows on the World in the former World Trade Centers.
Eventually, Abu decided to leave New York for good and call North Carolina his home. It wasn’t a bad idea, since this is where he received the highest title of Executive Chef.
The Lord blessed Abu beyond measure. He blessed him with a large family who love him to no end, blessed his hands, blessed him with the ability to make people laugh and touch their lives in ways they probably haven’t realized until now. Above all, Abu was blessed to find true love
He leaves behind his mother, Olga, father, Lotah, sisters Vanessa and Jennifer, five children, Osiris, Maxximus, Mia, Asia, and Sydney, a whole heap of cousins, aunts, uncles, and best friends.
