McDonald, Jane Rayner (Nee Gill) died peacefully at home, on Wed. January 30, 2013 surrounded by her children and husband. Jane lived in Malverne, but was a longtime resident of Rockville Centre and Point Lookout, NY. Beloved wife of Peter for 34 years who she felt fortunate to have met after the death of her first husband, Edward Rayner M.D. who died after 29 years of marriage. Loving mother of nine Jane, Sally, Lois, Gill(dec.), Robbie(dec.), William, Frances, Christopher and Carol Rayner. Cherished mother in law of Mary, Nicole and Laurent. Beloved sister of the Patricia Squillace M.D.(Dec.) and Dorothy Gill Esq. Adored grandmother of Sean and Kristine, Ali, Nick, Kaitlyn, Brittany, Lindsay, Chris, Gaby, Olivia, Claire, and Philip. Great Grandmother to Ryan, Ava and Brandon. Devoted sister in law to Bill(dec.) and Terry, Mick and Eileen, Tom, Dennis and Sue, David and Chris McDonald, and Katie and Kevin O'toole. Cherished aunt to 42 nephews and nieces. Jane was a PhD candidate at Columbia University & served as an adjunct professor of English at many local colleges and universities, including Barnard, Columbia, Hofstra, New York Tech, and the college of Insurance. She served as the Director of Women's Services in Nassau County for eight years. Her true gift, however, was inspiring people to reach their true potential, most especially three of her children, Sally, Robert and Gill, who were born with severe cerebral palsy.
