Please share a memory of Fiona to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Fiona Lorraine Keogh

October 1, 2023 – August 10, 2024

Fiona was born on Sunday October 1st, 2023. That last week of September had relentless rain in New York and she was born on a warm, sunny day. She was home with her parents for 6 weeks before her diagnosis on November 16th. Fiona was treated for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital from November to August. Thankfully throughout that time she was able to intermittently go home and enjoy time away from the hospital with her parents, family, and friends. She had Christmas at home with her Nana and Pop Pop, she had long strolls in Woodside and Aquebogue, slept in her crib, bounced in her Bjorn watching her parents cook, napped on her dads chest, played in the living room, had bathtime, watched Purdue make it to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship, visited farms and vineyards on the North Fork, went to the beach and even dipped into the beautiful Peconic Bay. Throughout that time Fiona was also receiving chemotherapies, radiation, CAR T Cell therapy, having numerous lumbar punctures and bone marrow biopsies, along with a litany of other medical procedures. Throughout it all she was a joyful, growing, playful baby – blissfully unaware of the chaos around her. She received her stem cell transplant to defeat her leukemia on June 26th – it was a day full of hope and joy. Within a week she had to be transferred from the oncology unit to the PICU due to complications from her chemo. The following week she had to be intubated. The month of July and early August were full of obstacles, setbacks, and derailments, but Fiona still managed to surprise all her doctors in unique ways as she did throughout this entre journey. The last week of her life, a fungal pneumonia developed in her lungs. As things turned worse, her parents were faced with difficult decisions. On Saturday August 10th when all options were exhausted, the nurses and doctors helped get Fiona off all her loud machines and tangled lines so she could pass away peacefully in her mother’s arms. Both her parents held her for a very long time to say goodbye to their sweet, beautiful Fiona.

The Keogh’s welcome friends and family to join them in celebrating Fiona’s short, incredible life that impacted so many. Please don’t wear black – Bright colors are encouraged.  Celebration of life will take place on Sunday August 18 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Thomas A. Glynn & Son funeral home.  Funeral mass will be held on Monday August 19 at 9:45 AM at St. Christophers R.C. Church 711 Merrick Rd Baldwin, NY.
