Obituary of Paul Cronen
Paul R. Cronen February 21st, 1953 – August 11th, 2022 The loving family of Paul R. Cronen is saddened to announce his passing on August 11th, 2022 at the age of 69. He died peacefully at home following a cancer diagnosis in January of 2020. He was attended by his wife of 47 years, Virginia, sons Daniel and David and daughter-in-law Sweetie. His son Daniel resides in Sparks NV with wife Brittany and son Julian 19 months soon to be a big brother. Son David resides in Westfield NJ with wife Sweetie and sons Lucas 3 ½ and Thomas 18 months. Paul was predeceased by his parents John and Rita (nee Hennessy) and brother Vincent M. Cronen husband of Betsy (nee Elizabeth McGovern). He is survived by siblings, Jean Cronen, Anne Dagenais (Rusty), Eddie Cronen (Lisa), Jimmy Cronen and Ellen Mularz (Pete) as well as many extended family members who mourn his loss. A 40 year resident of Rockville Centre NY Paul was born at St. Catherine's Hospital Bushwick NY and grew up in St. Michael's Parish in the East New York section of Brooklyn. He proudly attended St. Francis Prep in Greenpoint and St. Francis College in downtown Brooklyn, playing basketball at both schools. As a young man he became a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus Long Island Council #197 then located on Jamaica & Hale Avenues in the Cypress Hills neighborhood of Brooklyn. Paul began a career in banking at The East New York Savings Bank. He then worked at Anchor/Dime/Wamu Savings Bank, State Bank of Long Island/Valley National Bank and at his passing was employed at 1st National Bank of Long Island. He served on the Rockville Centre Chamber of Commerce as well as the Garden City Chamber of Commerce and was a Rotarian for many years. An avid NY Yankees fan, Paul enjoyed visiting major league baseball stadiums across the country. In addition to golfing he volunteered at several US Opens. A love of softball began in grade school and continued well into his 60's playing with friends who shared the same passion. Paul would consider his greatest achievements in life to be his family and the legion of friends he made wherever his work and personal life took him. His absence is missed by everyone who knew him. A private viewing was held at the Thomas Glynn A. & Son Funeral Home in Rockville Centre followed by cremation. A Memorial Gathering will be announced.
